Carol Flemming

Carol attended UCSC and designed opera costumes. She opened her own costume shop in 1972 making turn of the century hats, and any costume you could think of at the time. Her costume shop gradually became a mascot design company, as it continues to be today!

Carol created the first mascot company to use colored catalog, to put hard soles on mascot shoes AND to mold cooling helmets in mascot heads. She has published two books, including ‘What Was I Thinking?’ and ‘Welfare Mother’s Guide: How to Make Something Out of Nothing.’ She has owned three restaurants and has six grown children. She loves to travel, garden, dance and does yoga. She has fifty-two years in the mascot business and has no desire to retire.

Our Designers

Phillip Yorba

I have been working for Carol Flemming Costume Design for 10 years and building experience over the years by working on a wide range of different custom mascots.

I take pride in my work and make each project the best it can be, and make sure they are made to last.

I’ve lived in the California Sierra’s nearly all my life, have worked many other jobs, and I’m always expanding my skills.

I love woodworking, gardening, and my dog Rebel. I enjoy the challenge of making costumes, as well as, finding better and newer methods and materials to make a new mascot.

Hayley Green

I was born in Leeds, England. My husband and I moved to Southern California in 1989, where we operated a dry cleaning business for a number of years, before moving to Northern California in 2003.

I started working for Carol Flemming Costume Design in 2004.

My mother was an excellent seamstress and taught me to sew many years ago, I didn’t have any experience making mascot costumes, but with some initial help and direction from previous designers I was soon up and running.

It has been quite a learning experience and tremendous fun creating these costumes, even though some of them have given me a few extra gray hairs!

It is very satisfying when you finish a project and can look at it and say, “Yes, that came out looking pretty good.”

I work closely with the other designers and appreciate Carol’s confidence in my work.

Sometimes we run into challenges that appear nearly impossible to solve but I have come to enjoy the work so much, that finding solutions seems to have become second nature.

I currently live in Lodi with my husband, who is a very talented carpenter.

In my spare time, I like to read and am in a book club with a few friends. I also enjoy day-tripping to some of the wonderful places here in California.

Judy Frye

Judy has been sewing all her life and tailors her own clothes. Her work is exemplary and her brainstorming has come up with innovative ideas to improve costumes.

She lives with her cats and loves to cook. She is as creative in the kitchen as she is with costumes. She has a wry sense of humor that keeps up entertained.

Judy is a welcome addition to our costume family.

Patt

PATT…. International playboy and Man of Action. When not gallantly defending Earth from Pan-Galactic Zadonie Illuminati, or diabolical attacks by the Robots from Gama-13, he finds time to draw renderings/cartoons for Carol Flemming Costume Design Studio.

He likes his martinis stirred, not shaken.

Gladys

Gladys is back after a 15 year absence in Chicago and Las Vegas. A fine thinking designer who hales from Talca Chile.

When not designing mascots, Gladys knits and crochets. Her passion is travel and loves animals, especially cats. She currently resides in Valley Springs.
